This 1973 Dodge Challenger is said to have been purchased by the seller’s uncle from the original owner, and it remained under his ownership for 25 years before being acquired by the seller in 2007. This 1973 Dodge Challenger is said to have been purchased by the seller’s uncle from the original owner, and it remained under his ownership for 25 years before being acquired by the seller in 2007. An ensuing refurbishment in 2008 saw the 318ci V8 rebuilt. The car is finished in yellow over black vinyl, and equipment includes a three-speed automatic transmission, the Rallye package, 14″ wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, dual side mirrors, an aftermarket stereo, Rallye gauges, and air conditioning.
Delivered from the factory in Top Banana (FY1), the car was repainted around 2007, at which time the roof and one of the fenders were replaced, and a replacement vinyl roof covering was installed. The Rallye package added a performance hood, a black grille and lower deck panel, fender scoops, and side stripes. Additional features include chrome bumpers, dual side mirrors, and quad headlights.
The 14″ wheels are mounted with 225/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Rallye Package suspension equipment consisted of a larger front sway bar, a rear sway bar, heavy-duty shock absorbers, and increased camber of the rear springs. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The front bucket seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl, and interior appointments include woodgrain trim accents, a center console, a Sony CD stereo, and air conditioning. Sound deadening was added beneath the carpets, along the firewall, and in the trunk. Rust is noted in the door hinge area.
Rallye instrumentation was overhauled by Redline Gauge Works and consists of a 150-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and a combination gauge containing readouts for fuel level, coolant temperature, alternator charge, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 1,800 miles, which represents the distance added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 318ci V8 was rebuilt under current ownership and features Mopar Performance valve covers. Overspray on wiring and chipped engine bay paint are visible. The seller recommends an air-conditioning system recharge.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission.
